Daim White

size: 28 grams/
Energy per 100 grams:
540 kcal/2250 KJ
Fat per 100 grams: 31 grams
Almond: 3%
Contain nuts.

Like a blockbuster movie get’s it follower Marabou’s success story Daim gets her white sister. The follower is in most cases not as good as the original.

The stiff caramel center remains intact in this bar, what differ is the white chocolate coating. Beside the cosmetic aspect of this my question remains: What does the white chocolate really add to the taste? Nothing?
Well, it might give it a little more swetness but it’s not like it would need any more of that, and I’m said to say the caramel center is to packed with taste to give the white chocolate any space. Unlike the original Daim where the milk chocolate blends in nicely with the caramel.
However it’s a nice snack, always a try Marabou, always a try…

Olives in Candy?(or is it just my imagination??)
Filed under: the Baltics, Russia, Strange Stuff — mago @ 3:19 pm

Jänks
For sale in: Russia and Estonia.

Flavours: Olives??
Origin: Estonia
Brand: MAAG Piimatööstus
Sold by: Maksi Market store in Tallinn, Estonia
Price at the time: 3:90 EEK
size: 57 grams/
Energy per 100 grams:
347 kcal/1449 KJ
Fat: 20 gram
Jam and cake: 26%

Olives? I hope I don’t scare you away now cuz this really was quite a nice one but I do did sence a little olive and since I’m not
able to read cover that were my conslusion. If there’s any native Estonians or other Balts out there who could tell me
the meening of “Moositoru” then please dom ti’l then it’s olives in my book;)

Besides this there’s something other on this candy bar which make it unique from the other and the reason I bought it: it’s shape and
the cake layer on top and it’s also a size bigger then most. The milk cream was very nice, nothing spectacular but fresh and with a firm
but still smooth consistence. The chocolate was nice to, the darker kind and it mixed in very well with the rest of it. Sow what about the olive jam(?)
and the cake then? Well, since I highly doubt it’s “olive jam” whatever that now would be my conclusion is it probably was made of currants or possibly cherry
and in combination with the cake and the chocolate caused the olive taste. The cake was a bit dry however but hey, you can’t always get everything right :)
Overall a nice surpise!

Russian Kinder eggs! Success or just a copycat?

How to (not)open an egg:

Can you read the text?

Things use to look good at first for me but then…

Bloody Baghdad!

Thanks god it’s transperent

You never know with this little fu*kers! But Taddaaa! (I guess)

Russian Kindereggs! When I saw this candy in the store just coulden’t resist. I have totally neglected kinder eggs the last twenty years or so, I don’t know
why, maby I just haven’t noticed them the way I used to but this perticular version the “tepemok” brought up so many wondeful memories and will most certinly start a chain of events just as this site!

First of all I got to say Russian Kindereggs are way to expansive, at least if you buy them in Estonia. 15:50 EEK( $1.20)
for a egg might not sound to expensive but knowing you get three-four chocolate bars for that price…Kindereggs(or Tepemoks, sorry) to the people!

So how do this little challanger stand up to the original? First of all you get it in this nice little box, actually it’s supposed to be house, cute however.
I’m sure they change the box as they hopefully also change the toys cause there are a toy in it right? Ha ha, slow down, were not even through the
chocolate yet ;)

So what ablout the chocolate, well as you can see it’s the basic milk chocolate cover with a white inside, you might think they could have been a bit more
creative then that but what the heck, a concept like the kinder egg shoulden’t be messed without a good cause. When it comes to the taste it wasn’t as rich as the
original, it was very sweet as it should be and overall ok but I missed that full kinder flavour.

Playtime! I really didn’t know what to expect to come out of this one, fortunately the box was transparent as you might see in the picture. What I got
was a nice little rabbit with water can. I was quite dissepointed as I was making myself ready for some construction but I guess the kids today are to lazy for that.
However it was very detailed piece of art and it looks handdrawn to me. Overall I think this is a tie, the chocolate is nicer on the kinderegg but the toy in this one, but before making any
final decisions I need to try out a few more(Hopefully that green little froggy;)

The love of the people by their love of candy, a conspiracy?

Jeppi
Flavours: Raspberry

Origin: Estonia
Brand: MAAG Piimatööstus
Sold by: Rimi store in Tallin, Estonia
Price at the time: 3:60 EEK
size: 38 grams/
Energy per 100 grams:

This is something unique of it’s kind! First moving here to Estonia this candy type was a nice surprise, I didn’t even knew it excited
and I’m really surprised I haven’t seen it elsewhere.

They are sold from the refrigarator among the milk and other groceries in your local grocery store and comes in many brands and manufacturers. The filling is
almost certinly something called “cows milk”, roughly translated and it’s the white creamy center inside the choclate. It can be described as a combination between
vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. It’s very lean although with a slight tase of flour, not negative in any sence. Most often do they come with a flavour although the “vanilla-only”
on seems to one of the more popular choices. The flavour could either be a center of jam or chocolate or an overall flavouring of the “cow’s milk”, some of them has a biscuit or a layer of cake in them.

What surprised me when read the ingredients is the unusual high protein levels, around 10-20 grams per the 100. I’ve seen a lot of mommies and daddies taking home
big quantities of these and it hit me they probably target children, healthy candy! Do I need to say I eat a lot of these :)

The fruit flavoured once in these series have a very natural taste and are filled with a center similar of jam. Although the fruit taste is nice it woulden’t heart adding
a bit more jam I think and the choclate layer coud be a bit thicker.

Is it really “Cow’s Milk Bar”, a what the heck, now it is.

Kärums
Flavour: Dark chocolate

Origin: Latvia
Brand: Rigas Piensaimnieks
Sold by: Rimi store in Tallinn, Estonia
Price at the time: 3.90 EEK
Size: 45 grams
Energy per 100 grams:
363 Kcal/1520 KJ

Could be the adult’s choice if your into a more rich taste and like bitter chocolate this “cows milks bar” (see description on previous post).
Filled with chocolate chunks, a chocolate flavoured cow’s milk and a thicker chocolate coating the chocolate flavour is more dominating in this
one then in other one’s I’ve tried.(Lot’s of chocolate in that sentense, sweet;) It’s a bittery sweet taste and it lasts long, longer then some regular
bitter sweet chocolate bars I’ve tried, maby it’s because of the milk cream I dunno know but it’s really nice. The best one in it’s class, so far…

Maru
Flavour: Sokoladi
For sale in: Estonia, Russian and probably Lathvia and Lithuania as well.

Origin: Estonia
Brand: AS Maag Piimatööstus
Sold by: Rimi store in Tallin, Estonia
Price at the time: 2:90 EEK
size: 43 grams
Energy per 100 grams:
349 kcal/1455 KJ
Fat per 100 grams: 23 grams
Chocolate Cover: 19%
Chocolate Plomb: 9%

Unfortunately this one suffered some damage from the dominating Cola bottle in the bag on my way home from the shop but hey, that
dont affect the taste does it? In that case this one must have been a REAL good one, cuz i was quite satisfied with it as it were.

For this price it was quite a find, the milk creme was just as good and the chocolate cover just as thick. The center were
qite generously fild and it now it hit’s me I pretty much can write whatever I want since you can tell anyways ;)
Nah, but if your into dark and semi-dark chocolate and don’t have to much money to spare this is the bar for you!

Tiptop

Flavour: Vanilla.
For sale in: Estonia, Russian and probably Lathvia and Lithuania as well.

Origin: Estonia
Brand: Farmi
Sold by: Rimi store in Tallin, Estonia
Price at the time: 3:90 EEK
size: 43 grams
Energy per 100 grams:
349 kcal/1453 KJ
Fat per 100 grams: 24 grams
Chocolate Cover: 19%

Can’t say I was to excited about this one at first and I can’t blame the cover for that, it looked inspiring enough: I simply was kind a feed
up of about eating another Vanilla bar of this kind cuz their quite many of em. Well, a man got to do what he have to do and lucky for me!

What a surprise! The chocolate cover were a bit heavier then most other and the chocolate it self very exclusive, u could sence everything from
cherry and citrus from it and of course a the bitter sweet chocolate taste it self. But the milk cream was what surprised me to most and what made candy

different from other vanilla bars, a very lean cream with genuine cream taste! It didn’t give you any of that youghurt-like taste and I dunno if that’s considered a
good thing but I don’t care, I liked it! If it’s vanilla I’m after this is my first choice!

Candy as a tourist-trap.

Vana Tallinn Genuine Marzipan
For sale in: Estonia, Russia and Finland.

Origin: Estonia
Brand: AS Kalev
Sold by: Rimi Supermarket in Tallin, Estonia
Price at the time: 5:50 EEK
size: 40 grams/
Energy per 100 grams:
436 kcal/1834 KJ
Fat per 100 grams: 17 grams
Almond: 24%
Chocolate coating: 10&
Vana Tallinn Liqueur: 3.5%

This thing would have got banned in my homecountry of Sweden, 3.5% Alcohol? More like 35 to me. Vana Tallinn is probably the most
famous liqueur of Estonia, a 40% strong chocolate liqueur which is a standard item in every returning visitors luggage and to
tell you the truth the chocolate bar itself smells a little “tourist-trap” to me.

But I shoulden’t be to harsh, if you like the liqueur or just about any alcohol you sure like this chocolate bar. If your more into
marzipan however you will probably be dissepointed it get drown by the liqueur and feels like a rubber in the mouth, not even a
hint of almonds in it. The chocolate coating was way to thin as well.

Kinder Pingui

Origin: Estonia
Brand: Ferraro Saksamaa
Sold by: Rimi store in Tallin, Estonia
Price at the time: 7:50 EEK
Size: 30 grams
Energy per 100 grams:
439 Kcal/1831 KJ

Ferraro’s Kinder brand is for sure not uniqely an Estonian brand, in fact it’s not Estonian at all and by the producer this candy probably isn’t labeled as
a “cow’s milk Candy” but manufactured here in Estonia for Estonia I decided to put here anyway. It remind s very much of the the abow candy bars, it’s sold by the milk,
popular among kids their parents and has high protein levels.

Comparing the milk cream is a bit more like cream, almost a butter cream and the energy levels are higher. It’s also sweeter, maby because of the thin cake layers
and to tell you the truth a bit to sweet for me but I’m sure the kids like it :) The chocolate is milk chocolate and ok to me but the price could be a bit lower comparing
to other options.

Switzerland is not all about drugs, they make chocolate to!

Toblerone Mini
For sale in: Everywhere.

Description: It’s Toblerone for God’s sake! (But tinyer)
Origin: Switzerland
Brand: Toblerone (Kraft Foods Switzerland)
Sold by: Lucullus supermarket Linköping, Sweden
Price at the time: 6:90 Skr
size: 50 grams/
Energy per 100 grams:
530 kcal/2210 KJ
Fat per 100 grams: 30 grams
Filling: 10%
Honey: 3%
Almonds: 1.6%
Cacao Minimum: 28%
Contain nuts.

Drug abuse in Switzerland is one of the heighest in the world but let us put that a side for a moment, Switzerland still equals luxury to most. That’s what I like about toblerone, it’s exactly what one could expect to get from a rich country in the alps.

Just check out the shape of it, it’s alps, no question about it and the wrapping is exclusive just as it should be coming from Switzerland. So is the actual chocolate, it’s nice, not top-of-the line but what one could expect for a euro or so.

This is the mother-toblerone, the milk chocolate version and for those of you who already didn’t know, most toblerone’s is filled with a honey and almond nougat. It’s quite a heavy mix we’re dealing with here, just heavy enough though. Both the almonds and the honey comes through nicely and now it’s available in this handy mini format(50 gr). For a snack on the go -Very handy!
